A shopping mall gives the survivors in Dawn of the Dead shelter, supplies and a ready made image of ordinary life. That convenience is also the trap: possessing a miniature consumer world is not the same as finding a future. The zombies' repetitive movement makes the familiar routines of shopping look newly strange. Watch how the film measures the group's growing comfort against their need to remain mobile, and how ownership becomes a source of danger even after the usual economy has collapsed.
