You know, it’s getting depressing. I go into these movies with such little expectation, and even then I get disappointed.

Okay. A senior class decides to hold their prom at some creepy gothic place, so everyone comes dressed in period costume. Then a mysterious student accuses the twitchy guidance counselor of rape at a different high school, the counselor beats the student up, and promptly at midnight everyone disappears except for six students (including the mysterious one, who is miraculously healed) and the rapist. And then…

Then everyone wanders around having strange things happen to them with obvious disdain for anything so mundane as a plot. The middle 45 minutes of the movie could have been cut out, and the audience wouldn’t have missed a thing; that, to me, is practically the definition of “pointless.”

And then when the plot finally kicks in, it still isn’t much better. Everyone’s actions stay pointless. They run around the same gothic corners again and again, saying they know what’s going on and acting like they don’t.

The movie should have ended about five times before it did. It’s like one of those annoying classical pieces where the composer added about seventy extra “final” cords because he had three more pages to fill by contract. It kept wrapping up, and not ending, and wrapping up, and then not ending… When it finally did end (as evidenced by the closing credits), I stood up and did the wave to celebrate.
