July 2001: Invisibility

What is the lure of movies about invisibility? Well, first off, the special effects are fairly simple, and have been ever since The Invisible Man in 1933. But on top of that, most invisibility movies somehow involve the idea of unseen voyeurism — and given that that’s really the basis of the whole movie-watching experience anyway, it’s a perfect thematic match.

Movies watched as part of the festival:

Plus a movie I could have included, if I hadn’t reviewed it already: Interceptor Force (1999).
