As you can imagine, "cute'n'cuddly" does very well in Japan.
The panda cub had recently been born in the Tokyo Zoo, and had become something of a local mascot, not unlike the polar bear cub born in Utah's own Hogle Zoo (same day as my daughter, by the way).
Oh, and don't miss this one. It gives a new meaning to the word "horseplay."
